Treatment Options

Many dental conditions are common and treated with predictable results. Some are able to be prevented through early treatment.

Function
Teeth are Meant to Last a Lifetime.

  • Missing Teeth – Teeth that are missing should be replaced to avoid drifting tilting and chipping. Absent teeth also alter a patient’s bite and can contribute to joint tenderness. Tooth replacement options include partial dentures, bridges and implants.
  • Cracked Teeth – Teeth that are cracked are usually sensitive to bite upon release and to temperature changes. If not treated cracked teeth may break and need root canal therapy or extraction. Treatment options for cracked teeth include porcelain inlays, onlays and full coverage crowns.
  • Old Fillings – Most silver mercury fillings we placed well over 15 years ago. These fillings over time corrode and expand. As a result teeth crack and cavities begin around their edges. In the majority of situations these fillings need to be replaced. Sometimes they can simply be replaced with another filling. If the original filling was large or a substantial amount of tooth decay exists below the filling the tooth needs to be restored with a porcelain onlay or a full coverage crown.
  • Worn Teeth – Tooth grinding and clenching wears away tooth surface resulting in short sensitive teeth. Once the protective enamel is removed potential cavities spread quickly, teeth erupt and change position and the bite changes. This can sometimes lead to the need for extensive dental treatment. Teeth may be covered with crowns and night guards are made to prevent future destruction.

Health
Healthy Mouth, Healthy Body.

  • Painful Teeth – By the time that a patient feels severe pain in a tooth treatment is usually limited to root canal therapy or extraction. Small amounts of pain and sensitivity are treated less invasively, usually by fillings with cavity liners or insulators. Prevention plays an important role in management of painful teeth.
  • Bleeding Gums – Healthy gums do not bleed. Bleeding gums are caused by the presence of bacteria. You body tries to combat this bacteria by moving blood cells to the area. This is infection. Teeth and their roots should be cleaned minimally twice a year and sometimes up to four times a year. The best treatment combines homecare and office treatments and products. Our office has conveniently developed five gum and bone health treatment programs.

Esthetics
A Great Smile Changes Everything.

  • Misaligned and Improperly Spaced Teeth – Minor tooth location changes and rotations can have a major impact on the mouth. Straight teeth are easier to clean and usually have less cavities. When properly aligned less chipping and cracking of teeth occurs. Most of the se minor changes can now be accomplished with clear trays in a minimal amount of time. This system, the invisalign system, is offered in our office and interested patients can sign up for a consultation if desired.
  • Chipped Teeth – Teeth chip for a variety of reasons. Sometimes from misuse, improper bites, weak enamel or old large fillings teeth loose corners and sides. Sometimes this is painful, sometimes not.
  • Discolored Teeth – In general teeth darken and yellow over time. Drinks such as coffee, tea, wine and soda also stain teeth. Some people are born with stain incorporated into the tooth structure. Depending on the cause of the stain and the amount of discoloration several treatment options are available. Solutions include tooth whitening, veneers, and all porcelain crowns. Our office offers a quick start whitening program for those who would like quick results.
